The Ocean Rudee & Company audio
theatre
program concept is built around the
life and times of a mythical lighthouse keeper - Ocean
Rudee.
He lives, "...way out on a windswept seacoast", in The
Lighthouse with his dog Sandollar,
his kitty FableCat
and a lively Blue and Gold Macaw Parrot named Chaco.
In The Village, located not far from Ocean Rudee's lighthouse, live a number of his friends and acquaintances. They all love to go Imagination Travelin' when Ocean Rudee reads-aloud a selection from his Lighthouse Tower Library of children's literature.
Barnacle Babs and her nephew Harlan own and operate the Village Seafood and Fresh Fish Market. Ocean Rudee sees them almost every time he goes to town for supplies. If he stops in for a visit - or simply shouts out his, "Hello" - there's always a smile on his face when he leaves their market and heads off down the road toward The Village.
Angelica Garcia and her family own and operate a custom leather and upholstery shop in The Village. Under her tutelage Ocean Rudee learns about Hispanic culture. In return, whenever Ocean Rudee stops by their shop for a read-aloud, Angelica gets to go Imagination Travelin' to places far and wide. As time goes along their friendship flourishes accordingly.
Cap'n Whaley lives in The Village close by to his 8-year old grandson Roland Whaley. Between the two of them Ocean Rudee can always find reason enough to read-aloud, or be read-aloud to himself - as the good Cap'n is one whale of a storyteller in his own right.
Koichi Tojima is the owner of Tojima's Village Hardware and Aileen MacDonald is his store manager. She also keeps busy doing repairs, fixes and odd jobs around town. Ocean Rudee stops by quite often to pick up supplies or share a story - as Lighthouse Keepers are always in the midst of projects and upkeep and maintenance (or so it seems).
On a small truck farm outside of town in the country lives Ocean Rudee's best friend, Gus Logan, with his wife Ruby Peters and their daughter SalliJane Peters. Ocean Rudee is often a guest around the Logan's big country kitchen table for more than just a meal. Plus, when Gus comes to town The Lighthouse is almost always on his itinerary.
In the desert southwest lives Squashblossom, a Native American Medicine Woman, who keeps Ocean Rudee in touch with things above and beyond the sea. Their friendship was instant - their relationship is ongoing - neither one knows when the other may show up for their next visit.
